The French luxury brand Hermès won $100 million in a lawsuit against counterfeit products in New York and secured the removal of websites selling fake versions of its bags.
On March 6, Hermès filed a lawsuit against a number of Chinese companies, requesting the removal of the websites. The names of the defendants, who did not participate in the trial, were not officially disclosed.
According to a statement from Manhattan courts, Hermès successfully proved the existence of "companies or individuals selling imitations of their products in the U.S. through the internet."
A total of 34 websites, including addresses like HermesBags-Outlet.com and HermesOutletMall.com, were found guilty. The designated websites were ordered to pay the French brand "damages and interest totaling $100 million."
